OPÉRATION SAUVER LES ESCARGOTS

OPERATION SAVE THE SNAILS

Mademoiselle Agathe is proud to be associated with the citizen participation program aimed at monitoring common garden snail populations. This collaborative project, initiated by the National Museum of Natural History and the French Office for Biodiversity, aims to encourage the general public to find and photograph snails in their garden. This will contribute to a better understanding of the 421 species of shellfish gastropods present in France.

Participating is child's play, moreover we encourage you to do it with yours! All you have to do is set up a shelter (a wooden plank or a clay dish), turn it over a month later when it's dry, photograph all the snails and slugs that are there, then identify them and count the number of individuals for each species present.

You, who know the fantastic benefits of snail slime for your skin, Mademoiselle Agathe invites you to take part in this program, provided of course that you are lucky enough to have a garden. In return, we are committed to offering you the most popular product in our range, our day care, completely free of charge. Follow us slowly we explain all this to you here.

Presentation of the operation count your snails for science

According to the IUCN Red List, more snail extinctions have been recorded globally than for mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians all combined?

As far as France is concerned, of the 421 species of terrestrial gastropods identified, only half are deemed to be in good health. Moreover, for a quarter of these species, the lack of sufficient information makes it impossible to assess their conservation status. The state of terrestrial gastropod populations therefore remains largely unknown.

Nevertheless, it is certain that, like the rest of biodiversity, snails and slugs are vulnerable to environmental changes, particularly to alterations to their habitats. Because of their reduced mobility, they struggle to resist these changes.

Terrestrial gastropods conceal a fascinating diversity, ranging from varied morphologies to different places and lifestyles, unique defense mechanisms against predators, a role in the formation of soil humus, not to mention their place in the food chain. ...

Thanks to the simplicity of the "Operation counting your snails" protocol and the simplicity of the platform to fill in, this activity is both easy and entertaining for the whole family. By participating, you will discover the unique characteristics of common species and you will participate in the monitoring of their populations. Thus, scientists will be able to conduct analyzes to better understand the environmental changes that affect snails.

Moreover, because if you are on this page you cannot ignore our love for this exceptional little animal, we undertake once you have uploaded your observations on the site https://www.qubs.fr/ to send you a 30ml day care with more than 60% snail slime extract harvested by hand and this completely free of charge.

It's our way of bringing our drool to the building.

How to participate

Open an account on Qubs

Once you have successfully installed your shed in your garden, the next step is to create an account on the Qubs site. You will need to choose a username, add a profile photo, and specify your observing site.

And it's done! You are now a member of a scientific program dedicated to the protection of biodiversity. Your data will be critically important for counting the number of snails in different populations.

Register for the program

Upload your observations

Each month, take a photo of your observation by counting the snails and the various species present under the shelter. These observations will help fill data gaps that currently make it difficult for scientists to estimate population sizes.

More broadly, your observations aim not only to enrich scientific databases, but also to develop a support network for identification, exchange and validation by a community of committed observers.

Receive our bestseller at home

And what about Mademoiselle Agathe in all this? Well, she's determined to thank you for your involvement in this program. Hoping to please you, we will send you a day cream once you have registered your first observations.

Simply send us an e-mail (contact@mademoiselle-agathe.com: Subject of the e-mail: Operation count your snails) to inform us of your participation in the program and attach the photos you have already sent. You will then receive our day cream directly by Colissimo in your mailbox.

It's up to you !
