COSMETICS AND OIL - RECOGNIZING TRUE FROM FALSE!
How ? What am I learning? Oil in my cosmetics? Info or intox, Mlle Agathe deciphers for you the established truths and "hearsay" on petrochemicals and cosmetics. So, true or false ?
THE MINERAL OILS USED IN COSMETICS ARE OF NATURAL ORIGIN: FALSE!
Coming from the distillation of oil, yes yes oil... Mineral oils are very misleading and still make up a large majority of cosmetic products today. For what ? Simply because their low cost and their stability over time push manufacturers to include them so abundantly in their formulas. We're challenging you, so go check in your bathroom, you're bound to find some.
So, how to spot them Inspector Miss Agathe? They are written in lowercase on the back of the product label and their name is not natural: Paraffinum Liquidum, Petrolatum, Cera Microcristallina, Ozokerite, Ceresin, Mineral oil, Synthetic Wax... We won't take you back!
THESE MINERAL OILS ARE NOT DANGEROUS FOR THE SKIN: FALSE AND AGAIN FALSE.
Spread over the epidermis, mineral oils leave an occlusive film giving a false sensation of hydration. They also do not provide fatty acids, which are responsible for the self-regulation of skin hydration. And to top it off, mineral oils have an undesirable comedogenic effect, clogging pores and causing the formation of pimples and blackheads... No point! you are told.
Fortunately, highly publicized, these petrochemical components quickly alerted the legislative authorities. European directive 67/548/EWG (CAS no. 8009-03-8) on dangerous substances classifies paraffins or petrolatum as category 2 as carcinogens. This is now prohibited for cosmetic use (except when the full refining history is known and it can be shown that the substance from which it is produced is not a carcinogen).
To go further in the perversion, these oils are obviously not biodegradable. After having criss-crossed your skins, they end up in the rivers...
One thing is certain: Miss Agathe has nothing to do with it, and even less with her day cream. Composed of 99% ingredients of natural origin and 60% organic snail slime extract harvested by hand, it moisturizes and regulates your skin. Without polluting your waterways!
A BRAND THAT MAKES ITS CREAM FROM PETROCHEMICAL INGREDIENTS DOES NOT HAVE TO MENTION IT TO ITS CONSUMER: TRUE.
Silicon, petrolanum, silicone… brands are required to mention their composition. However, unless you are a chemist, it is impossible for a lay consumer of cosmetic chemistry to know whether these products are toxic or not.
Today, some brands are dishonestly riding the wave of greenwashing to ease their conscience. Under cover of well-orchestrated marketing, they focus on a vegetable or organic ingredient, diverting our attention from its petrochemical ingredients, which often predominate in its composition.
Good advice: keep your eyes open to avoid falling into their nets!
TODAY THERE ARE ALTERNATIVE SOLUTIONS TO PETROCHEMISTRY IN COSMETIC COMPOSITIONS: TRUE.
Called into question from all sides, petrochemicals is no longer the royal road. In the radiant era of bio, green chemistry regains its letters of nobility, presenting itself as a major challenger to counter the big bad petrochemical industry.
Appeared in the early 90s, it designs chemical products and processes eliminating or reducing the use of syntheses of substances harmful to humans and the environment. Saving health and the planet, this sustainable chemistry applies to the study of many processes: plant extraction, hemisynthesis, purification of molecules, or even organic synthesis.
The green revolution is underway and the petrochemical industry has a lot to worry about!
PARABENS HAVE ALMOST DISAPPEARED FROM THE COMPOSITION OF OUR PRODUCTS: FALSE.
Used for their antibacterial and antifungal (which destroys microscopic fungi) properties, parabens have long had their heyday. Today decried for their largely harmful effects on health (in particular carcinogenic and disruptive of the endocrine system), many products have changed their composition, displaying them under the label “without parabens”.
But the tricks of the cosmetics industry going ever further, parabens are now replaced by methylisothiazolinone (as it is pronounced), a powerful allergen...
This is an observation that does not affect our sweet almond soap. 81% of its total vegetable ingredients come from organic farming. Made through a cold saponification process, it combines snail slime, sweet almond oil, shea butter and olive oil to deeply protect and nourish the most fragile skin.
ORGANIC COSMETICS DO NOT CONTAIN PETROCHEMICAL INGREDIENTS: TRUE
The fight against oil is the number 1 battle for organic cosmetics! And it is a commitment that Mlle Agathe also carries, by composing her products of natural ingredients, never derived from petrochemicals.
Our lightening cream won't tell you otherwise. Composed of 99% ingredients of natural origin, our lightening cream will correct certain imperfections in the pigmentation of your skin that have appeared over time.
At Mlle Agathe, our treatments are certified organic under the COSMOS specifications, involving the control of a certification body (Ecocert) at all stages of the production chain, from breeding to the manufacture of the finished product. In the same way, our formulas are also controlled, offering you the guarantee of not finding GMOs, parabens, silicones, perfumes or without synthetic oil, derived from petrochemicals.
We are Miss Agathe and we approve of this message.
